An Aurora housing advocacy group is hosting a free film screening to promote discussion of philanthropy and the men’s transitional shelter project.
Adam Mobbs, founder of Aurora Cares Housing for All, a community group that formed in the wake of the shelter project being voted down, organized the screening of Uncharitable, to help the group get together and discuss
“We had some generous donors come forward and sponsor us, to be able to offer a service to the community, just to get our members together and have a discussion about the men's transitional project, by watching a film called Uncharitable,” said Mobbs.
The documentary stars Academy Award winner Edward Norton, and takes a look at philanthropy and acts as a "call-to-action is to abandon our sack-cloth-and-ashes constraints on nonprofits," according to the film's website.
The film screening will be followed by a discussion with Michael Braithwaite, chief executive officer of Blue Door, an emergency shelter provider in York Region.
The screening is being held on Friday, Nov. 15 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at Brevik Hall in Aurora Town Square at 50 Victoria St.
The event is free, but attendees are asked to register online for tickets, where more information can also be found.
