Aurora is marking Hanukkah this year by hosting a menorah lighting ceremony at Town Square on Sunday, Dec. 29.
The town is hosting the event in partnership with local Jewish organization Chabad Aurora, who have worked with the town on similar events for more than a decade.
The event will mark the lighting of the fifth candle on the menorah, to celebrate the Festival of Light.
“The lights represent the flickering light of liberation over the darkness of oppression,” according to a town news release.
The event will start with a downtown walk starting from the Aurora Public Library, located at 15145 Yonge St., to Town Square, located at 50 Victoria St. The walk starts at 4 p.m.
The main event will take place there, with the event set to feature the lighting of the menorah, traditional foods, and a fire performance, as well as outdoor skating at the outdoor skating rink.
The event is on Sunday, Dec. 29, starting at 4 p.m. for the downtown village walk starting at the Aurora Public Library, with the main ceremony starting at 5 p.m. at Town Square.
