The Town of Aurora is hosting its annual Women in Sport weekend, with the aim of helping “women grow in sport” March 29 and 30.

The town is teaming up with the Coaches Association of Ontario (CAO) to offer in-person National Coaching Certification Program courses in making ethical decisions and fundamental movement skills.

The ethical decision-making course will teach coaches how to “identify the legal, ethical, and moral implications of difficult and potentially unsafe situations,” while the latter will teach coaches how to “lead activities that will promote the development of fundamental movement skills,” according to the coaches association.

The women in sport program, dubbed the W.I.N.S. Weekend, is in its second year, having seen 39 participants earn 50 coaching staff certifications over the course of two programs in a single weekend. This year, the town is aiming for similar numbers, with 40 participants and 30 certifications.

“The Women in Sport Weekend in Aurora is a fantastic opportunity for women and girls to advance their coaching careers and build connections with others in the sport community,” Robin McDougall, the town’s director of community services, said in a statement. “This weekend is a celebration of women’s strengths, expertise, and important role in coaching.”

As well as the two separate courses, there will be a luncheon on March 30, with free child-minding services available for the duration of the courses. The cost to register is $10, a savings of more than 80 per cent, the town said. Discount available for high school and college/university students.

Making ethical decisions runs on Saturday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Aurora Town Square, at 50 Victoria St., in the Nichols program room.

The fundamental movement skills course and luncheon runs on Sunday, March 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Aurora Town Square, again in the Nichols program room.

More information and details on how to register can be found online.
