Abuse Hurts, a Newmarket-based charitable organization that has the goal of reducing the incidence and impact of abuse through education and public awareness is recognizing its volunteers by awarding them King Charles III Coronation Medals.
The new medal, which commemorates the coronation of King Charles III, honours individuals for their "significant contribution to Canada in many areas of achievement."
The Abuse Hurts recipients are:
- Seta Baker: volunteer co-ordinator, special assistant to CEO
- Ellen Campbell, CEO: a survivor of childhood sexual abuse who founded the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness (Abuse Hurts) a national, charitable organization in 1993 . The Centre’s mandate is to significantly reduce the incidence and impact of abuse through education and public awareness.

- Teresa and Gary Kruze: They joined Ellen Campbell and Abuse Hurts (formerly known as the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness) in 1997 following the tragic suicide of Gary’s brother. Martin Kruze was one of hundreds of boys sexually abused at Maple Leaf Gardens who courageously exposed the sex abuse ring. After Martin’s passing, Teresa and Gary worked with Ellen and Abuse Hurts to keep alive Martin’s vision of finding support for survivors.
