At least 84 high-risk contacts and seven employees with COVID-19 variant cases are linked to an outbreak at a Vaughan nail salon that wasn't tracking patrons as required, according to York Region Public Health.
The public health unit issued a public notice tonight alerting patrons of Nails at Anthony’s at 8099 Weston Rd. that they must self-isolate for 14 days if they attended the salon from March 23 to 26, said York Region spokesperson Patrick Casey.
Public health has identified 84 high-risk contacts, Casey said, with seven of the eight staff who have been confirmed with variant of concern cases all working while they were infectious.
"The salon did not properly maintain a patron list, did not track the type of service for each client or the name of the staff who provided the service," Casey said. "Without a proper patron list, public health continues to have difficulty identifying high-risk contacts, resulting in the need for a public notice."
As of April 8, four York Region residents and three Toronto residents are confirmed with COVID-19.
Patrons should closely monitor themselves for signs and symptoms of the virus and get tested if symptoms develop.
The salon closed at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 26.
York Region public health is continuing to investigate the outbreak.
