Re: ‘Restaurant guy’ returns to Newmarket to open Wimpy’s Diner, Jan. 22, 2025
When the original Wimpy’s left Newmarket, I remained an enthusiastic patron of the restaurant at the southwest corner of Davis Drive and Main Street. The restaurant did not close, it simply morphed into the Davis Diner.
It is a family business with delightful owners. The food is excellent, the cost is more than reasonable, the servers are prompt and pleasant and the restaurant is spotless.
Here is the back story. Wimpy’s is a franchise. The mother company insists that all franchisees purchase food products from them, which is a usual policy. Purchasing from the mother company cuts into the profits of the hard-working owners who, like all of us, work diligently to provide for their family. The owners, Julie and Ryan, made the difficult decision to go on their own.
There have been hard challenges in the past few months. Their Google review has been hacked, so they have lost their many excellent reviews. As well, negative comments have been posted online by people who are not regular patrons. My response is to support Julie and Ryan by eating more often at Davis Diner and I invite all regular patrons to do the same.
