Julie Ann Lingan, one of the COVID-19 patients at Southlake Regional Health Centre, has been taken off her ventilator and is "doing great," according to her mother.

Marvie Alday said her daughter is doing well, but still has a fever and is experiencing some delirium after being sedated over the past few weeks.

The Bradford woman, who is in her 30s, was admitted to the Newmarket hospital on March 17, after experiencing shortness of breath and testing positive for the virus.

Lingan, who had not travelled recently and has no pre-existing conditions, contracted the virus through community transmission.

Lingan was able to FaceTime with her husband and children on Friday morning, Alday said.

Lingan's husband tested positive for the virus March 25 and is currently self isolating at home.

The couple's young twins tested negative for the virus and are currently staying with their aunt.

Alday is asking for prayers for her daughter's full recovery.

As of yesterday at 4:30 p.m., 10 COVID-19 patients — two of whom are awaiting test results — are in Southlake's ICU, and three patients on inpatient units. Fifteen inpatients are under investigation.

Southlake is reporting two COVID-related deaths as of April 3.

Fifty-two individuals who have tested positive at Southlake's assessment centre and emergency are in self-isolation.
