A mechanical issue has forced the early closure of the Tim Horton's water feature at Riverwalk Commons, the Town of Newmarket confirmed in a Sept. 10 statement.
The earlier than normal shuttering of the community space will give town staff more time to investigate and fix the issue so that it doesn't interfere with the outdoor ice rink season in November.
“Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the water feature this season while following the new rules and sharing the space. We look forward to seeing you again in November for outdoor skating,” town officials said.
The downtown splash pad opened later in the season at the end of June 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Those looking to still enjoy the outdoors can visit the Frank Stronach Spray Pad (500 Memorial Circle) and the Rogers Spray Pad (170 London Rd.) as they will remain open until the end of September.
