The hard-working health-care heroes fighting COVID-19 on the front line at Southlake hospital now have a bounty of snacky snacks to keep them going, thanks to the Newmarket Lions Club and its food store partners.
“We received a wish list from staff that included bottles of water, juice boxes, cookies, candy and other individually wrapped treats, individual packs of Kleenex, and Chapsticks,” Lions spokesperson Rick Metcalfe said. “The Newmarket Lions Club thanks the many emergency workers for the work they are doing in this stressful time.”
All told, Newmarket Lions Club members today delivered $3,500 worth of satisfying salty, sweet, and crunchy snacks to Southlake Regional Health Centre’s doctors, nurses, and staff on March 31.
Oh, and 1,900 bottles of water and 800 juice boxes to wash it all down.
“The club recognizes the stress these workers are under due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Metcalfe said. “Staff have only limited access to services within the hospital during the day.”
The care package that would a smile on anyone’s face includes:
- 1,900 bottles of water
- 800 juice boxes
- 1,600 bags of potato chips
- 1,600 granola bars
- 800 individually wrapped cookies
- 10,000 chocolate bars, including individually wrapped candies
- 600 lip balm tubes
- 800 individual tissue packages
The Lions wish to thank Effem Foods, Foodland in Stroud, Frito Lay, Rocket Candy, Food Basics, and No Frills for their help to fill the order.
