Happy birthday, Uncle Nick — from a distance

A Newmarket family came up with a special way to give birthday wishes to a beloved uncle, while practising social distancing

"Happy birthday, Uncle Nick," shouted the Muir family, waving their sign, while standing at the end of Nick Primaverile's driveway in Newmarket.

With health officials emphasizing the crucial importance of social distancing to halt the spread of COVID-19, Bryan and Maria Muir, and their children Eric, 12, and Julia, 10, came up with a special way to give birthday wishes to a beloved uncle — while staying well outside of the recommended two metres distance.

After a trip through a Tim Hortons drive-through, they deposited drinks and a muffin with a lit candle on Uncle Nick's doorstep, rang the doorbell, and headed for the end of the driveway to shout out the birthday wishes.

This will be a celebration that Primaverile — who's marking his 29th birthday (that's what he said!) — will never forget.
