Elections Canada is calling for more workers needed for advance polls and on election day in Newmarket-Aurora and other ridings in York Region.
More poll workers are needed for advance polls Sept. 10 to 13 and on election day Monday, Sept. 20 in the ridings of Newmarket-Aurora, Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill, Markham-Unionville and King-Vaughan.
“On Election Day, Elections Canada becomes the biggest employer in the country, hiring more than 250,000 workers. This general election is no different,” the organization said in an email.
Applicants must be Canadian citizens and at least 16 years old on election day. Pay ranges are $17.22 to $23.44 per hour depending on position, with a paid training session also offered.
As for COVID-19 protocols, Elections Canada said it will provide masks, gloves, plexiglass barriers and sanitizing products. The organization will not require workers to get a COVID-19 vaccine due to recruitment needs and logistics, according to an FAQ.
“Physical contact with election workers will be limited. Election workers will be wearing masks and some may be wearing gloves when cleaning commonly used surfaces, for instance,” Elections Canada said. “Both office workers and poll workers are encouraged to frequently use the available COVID-19 self-assessment tools.”
