Newmarket voters will select their town council for the next four years today as election polls close after 8 p.m.
The results of the municipal election will be finalized and announced at the town’s municipal office, after a 10-day voting period with online and paper ballots. NewmarketToday will bring you to live coverage of the results as soon as they come in at newmarkettoday.ca/municipal-election.
You can still vote online, at the town office via appointment, or the voting assistance centres at the Magna Centre or Ray Twinney Recreation Complex. The town said approximately 17.5 per cent of eligible voters have cast a ballot so far.
“This is it, the last day to vote in Newmarket's election and choose a council and school board,” Mayor John Taylor said on social media. “Please vote!”
Results will come in sometime between 8 and 9 p.m. after results have been tabulated, according to the municipality.
Six council seats are up for grabs, including deputy mayor and wards 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7. Trustee positions with the public and Catholic school boards will also be decided today. The mayor, plus councillors for wards 3 and 5 have been acclaimed.
