Shots fired at tow truck operator in Markham commuter parking lot

Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking suspects following a shooting that occurred in a parking lot in the City of Markham.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, at approximately 8:15 p.m., police responded to a car pool parking lot at Highway 404 and Major Mackenzie Drive East for a report of a shooting.

Officers learned that at approximately 8 p.m., a white Ford F150 pickup truck with no licence plate entered the parking lot and drove up to two parked tow trucks. A passenger got out of the truck and pointed a firearm at the driver in one of the tow trucks and began shooting.

The victim put the vehicle into drive and tried to drive out of the parking lot. He collided with the suspect's truck as the suspect continued shooting. The victim attempted to drive away but lost control of the vehicle and drove into a ditch. The suspect fled going south on Highway 404.

The suspect vehicle was located by Toronto Police this morning in the area of Don Mills Road and Steeles Avenue and will be held for examination.

The shooter is described as male, approximately 5’10” with a thin build, wearing a black balaclava mask, black gloves, light-coloured jeans and a black hooded jacket. No description of the driver of the suspect vehicle was obtained.

There were no injuries. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to come forward.
