A tractor trailer caught fire in a Newmarket field yesterday afternoon, which temporarily closed Leslie Street as crews battled the blaze.
Central York Fire Services were called at 4:05 p.m. Jan. 18 for reports of a tractor trailer on fire in the area of Leslie near Crowder Blvd, according to an incident report.
Crews arrived to find black smoke and fire on scene. They established water supply from a nearby fire hydrant but this resulted in the temporary closure of Leslie in both directions from Mulock Drive to Crowder.
The cause was determined to be an accidental electrical fire.
It was quickly put out but the trailer was damaged. No one was inside the trailer at the time.
The fire occurred near a Bell cell tower, however, this tower was not damaged by the fire.
Three Central York Fire Services trucks and one command vehicle were deployed, with York Region Paramedic Services, York Regional Police and Bell also involved in the response.
There were no injuries and there is no ongoing impact to the community.
