Newmarket baseball players ready to swing into season

Timothy Street will close briefly on Saturday, May 11 for the annual opening day parade, followed by ceremonies at the Fairgrounds Park

Newmarket Baseball Association players will kick off the season with a parade through town Saturday, May 11.

Hundreds of players will march down Timothy Street from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. as the baseball season begins again in Newmarket.

The Town of Newmarket advises that the street will be closed from Doug Duncan Drive to Pine Street during that time, with the public potentially experiencing traffic disruptions.

Following the opening ceremonies, rep and league teams will begin play on the diamonds.

“We hope to see everyone at the Opening Day Parade and Ceremonies,” the association said on its website.

The parade will start from the All Our Kids Playpark, with about 500 participants expected. They will walk down Timothy to the main diamond at Fairgrounds Park. That will be followed by opening ceremonies, with speeches by the executive of the Newmarket Baseball Association and local dignitaries. Mayor John Taylor is set to make the ceremonial opening pitch.
